This is BOGUS BECAUSE: In 2003, Senate Bill 420 required that the state of California create a program to track patients and caregivers using medical marijuana. That program is now called the Medical Marijuana Program, or MMP. You must go to your county office and fill out the required paperwork, pay a fee ($153 in LA County, with a 50% discount for Medi-Cal patients), and then the county will issue you a REAL MMIC (Medical Marijuana Identification Card.) THAT is the real ID card, which can ONLY be issued by the County office. ID cards "issued" by the doctor's office are the same as a letter, but it's just on a smaller piece of paper. All you need is your written letter to appease law enforcement. (There are rules and risks involved, of course, and we will go over all of it in detail with you when you come in.)

Do you have to have one of the disorders listed in Senate Bill 420 to get an approval or recommendation for medical cannabis?

No. According to the medical board of California, it is up to the discretion of the physician to recommend or approve marijuana for medical reasons, based on his medical professional judgement.

Is my information stored somewhere that any agency can find it?

Absolutely not. Your information is stored on the highest security medical records software that is 100% confidential and 100% secure. NOBODY has access to any of your information, including your diagnosis or recommendation status, unless you approve them to. The only time this would be is if you would like a dispensary to check on your approval status. If so, you can show them your recommendation letter, and they can look it up on our 24 hour verification system. This will ONLY show if you are approved or not it will NOT show any other information, like your diagnosis, date of birth, address, or phone number.

If a government agency asks for my records, what happens?

First, we contact you and explain any documents that we have received from them. Then, after discussing it with you, we only give the information that is the MINIMUM amount and that is absolutely required by law. For example, we may say that we gave an approval without saying what the diagnosis is. We do everything we can to absolutely protect your privacy as required by our medical ethics and by HIPAA laws.

Does marijuana use lead to other drug use?

This is a controversial issue without a clear answer. Evidence shows that in people who start using marijuana before age 18, there is a higher risk of using other illegal drugs. We do not recommend the use of medical cannabis in persons under 18 without very careful and extensive consideration and supervision.
